Ulysse Nardin diving watch x skeleton model sets off a new wave The third wave

Ulysse Nardin unveils the third timepiece from its partnership with One More Wave, the Diver X Skeleton One More Wave. Continuing a partnership built on a shared seafaring spirit and commitment to great causes, this new limited edition watch translates the brand’s watchmaking innovation into direct support for a non-profit organization run by veterans. The launch of this watch marks a deepening of the partnership, leveraging one of Ulysse Nardin’s most technically forward-thinking dive watch platforms to amplify its partner’s message and mission.

Since 1846, Ulysse Nardin has been a leading brand in the marine chronometer space. The Le Locle-based manufacturer became an important supplier of precision timekeeping instruments to navies around the world, including the United States Navy, as early as 1905. This historic connection to the sea is more than just a footnote in the brand’s history, it is a core component of its identity. This heritage of creating rugged and reliable instruments for maritime professionals has laid a solid foundation for the modern dive watch and, more importantly, a partnership with those who serve their country.

Partnering in this collaboration is One More Wave, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2015 by retired U.S. Navy SEAL Alex West. The organization’s mission is direct and effective: to help injured and disabled veterans through the healing power of surfing. Knowing that the ocean holds tremendous healing potential, One More Wave provides veterans with surf gear specifically tailored to meet their individual needs, which often stem from injuries sustained during their service. This goes far beyond simply providing a surfboard; it’s about creating a community of mutual support and providing a tangible path to recovery and wellness.

Ulysse Nardin’s partnership with One More Wave is not a recent or superficial marketing alliance. It began in 2018, stemming from the desire of François-Xavier Hotier, President of Ulysse Nardin Americas, to create a more direct and meaningful way to support veterans. A contact with a Navy SEAL led to a meaningful meeting with then-One More Wave CEO Kyle Buckett at a bar in Coronado, California. Surrounded by memorabilia from fallen SEALs, that initial conversation laid the foundation for a genuine collaboration that culminated in the launch of the first watch, the Diver “One More Wave” Special Edition.

This was followed by a second watch, the 44mm One More Wave Special Edition Diver Chronometer, which further incorporated the philanthropic concept into the watch design. For the Ulysse Nardin USA team, the partnership has evolved into a family affair, with employees volunteering to support One More Wave. This deep-rooted commitment ensures that the collaboration is more than just a simple product launch, but continues to raise funds and awareness for the organization’s lifesaving work.

The new Diver X Skeleton One More Wave watch is the latest result of this collaboration. With its confident and exquisitely crafted aesthetic, this watch instantly attracts attention. The large openwork “X” structure in the center of the dial is the focal point of the entire design. This iconic element is coated in black PVD and combined with polished and satin finishes to create a dynamic play of light and shadow. This architectural framework allows for a glimpse of the movement's complex mechanical structure, creating a visual depth that is both complex and fascinating.

Visually, this watch is a perfect fusion of modern material science and bold color embellishments. The 44mm case is made of black DLC (diamond-like carbon)-coated titanium, a material favored for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio. This makes the watch surprisingly light on the wrist, even though it is 15.7mm thick. The titanium surface is decorated with sandblasting and satin textures, giving it a tactical anti-reflective texture, highlighting its characteristics as a serious watch.

A highlight is the unidirectional rotating bezel made of Carbonium®. This high-performance composite material is made of upcycled aviation carbon fiber and has a unique black and gray marble pattern. This process ensures that each bezel is unique, giving each of these 50 limited edition watches a unique personality. The concave bezel and the domed sapphire crystal further enhance the three-dimensional feel of the watch.

The color scheme is a direct nod to One More Wave, combining the brand’s signature grey and turquoise colors. The hour and minute hands are covered in vivid turquoise Super-Luminova®, ensuring legibility against the dark, skeletonized background. In contrast, the black hour markers and second hand are covered in grey Super-Luminova®, creating a coordinated, purposeful color scheme that is both practical and symbolic of the partnership.

The grey rubber strap is integrated into the case design, further highlighting the branding of the partnership. The strap is adorned with a black ceramic element at 6 o’clock, proudly featuring the turquoise One More Wave trident logo. This understated yet powerful detail is a constant reminder of the watch’s mission. The strap is paired with a folding clasp made of black ceramic and black PVD titanium, continuing the watch’s concept of advanced and durable materials.

At the heart of this watch is the Ulysse Nardin Manufacture UN-372 automatic skeleton movement, a testament to the brand’s 34 years of skeleton expertise. Comprising 187 individual parts and 23 jewels, the movement is both functional and a work of mechanical art. Its construction matches the “X” pattern on the dial, while the barrel cover at 12 o’clock is crafted from the same unique Carbonium® as the bezel.

Ulysse Nardin has long been a pioneer in the use of silicon in watchmaking, a technology that debuted in the revolutionary Freak watch in 2001. The UN-372 movement fully embraces this heritage. The oversized silicon balance wheel, with nickel flyweights, ensures exceptional stability. The escape wheel, pallet fork and balance spring are all made from silicon, a material prized for its anti-magnetic, corrosion-resistant and long-lasting durability without the need for lubrication.

The widespread use of silicon significantly improves the watch’s chronometric performance. The movement beats at a frequency of 3 Hz, or 21,600 times per hour, and its stable vibrations ensure reliable accuracy. In addition, it has a strong power reserve of 72 hours, which means that the watch can still function normally after being rewound even if it is left for three days.

Despite its exquisite skeleton design, the Diver X Skeleton One More Wave watch is still a fully functional diver's watch. Its solid structure, screw-down crown and solid case back ensure water resistance to a depth of 200 meters. The complex structure of the movement can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback, and the One More Wave logo is printed on the watch glass, further highlighting the collaborative spirit of this special edition watch.

The philosophy of One More Wave is to break through the limitations of the past and look to the future with a firm spirit. This concept is fully reflected in the design and engineering of the Diver X Skeleton. Ulysse Nardin challenged the traditional concept of dive watches, which are usually characterized by a solid and practical dial, and created the world's first skeleton dive watch. This unconventional move reflects the journey of the veterans One More Wave supports, who are redefining their future.

The choice of materials also reflects this forward-thinking theme. Titanium and Carbon-Positive® are futuristic materials, derived from aerospace and advanced engineering. Their inclusion in this watch makes it more than just a timepiece, it embodies the essence of innovation, resilience and performance. The skeletonized form reveals the intricacies of its inner workings, and this mechanical honesty fits in with the transparent and direct mission of its non-profit partners.

One More Wave’s mission is vital. With an average of 17 veterans in the United States dying by suicide every day, the surf therapy provided by the organization is not only beneficial but also life-saving. Research continues to confirm the effectiveness of this therapy for those suffering from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The organization provides custom equipment and connects veterans to a global network of volunteers and treatment programs, building a framework of support and a community of belonging.

As a result, this watch represents the fusion of high-end watchmaking craftsmanship with an important humanitarian mission. From the upcycled carbon fiber of the bezel to the meticulously polished silicon components in the movement, every component is part of a larger story. It’s a story of a collaboration that began over burgers and beer and culminated into an ongoing effort that has a tangible impact on the lives of veterans.

The Ulysse Nardin Diver Skeleton One More Wave watch showcases what can be achieved when a brand with a long history and forward-thinking thinking dedicates its resources to a meaningful cause. It combines futuristic aesthetics, cutting-edge materials, and deep mechanical innovation to support veterans on their journey to recovery.

The watch, referenced 3723-170LE-2A-OMW/3A, is limited to 50 pieces worldwide and available only in the United States. This exclusivity underscores the dedication of the partnership and the audience it serves.
