Unlike other kinds, destination wedding gowns need to not just suit your style and budget but also the weather and journey. With more criteria to satisfy, you may be mistaken in thinking searching for destination dresses is a stressful experience, but you'd be amazed. Armed with just a little knowledge of materials and designs, it's the same as buying a marriage dress for any ceremony nearer to home.
Bridal fabrics fit for destination wedding gowns
We are all aware linen can be quite prone to creasing and never the best outfit option for traveling but which wedding gown fabrics in the event you opt for when eloping abroad - and which in the event you leave in your own home? We spoke to the award-winning wedding gown designer Veni to discover.
"Although Mikado looks fabulous throughout the year, it's a weighty fabric produced from heavy silk and it is much more suitable for structured styles than floaty destination wedding gowns you’d find around the beach. Satin is yet another fabric best left in your own home," explains Veni. "Despite being a popular wedding gown fabric for a long time, its inclination towards creasing causes it to be a poor option for packing. Instead go for lace, crepe, or chiffon."
"Crepe is an opulent fabric suitable for every destination because of its ability to help you stay warm in cold climates and cool within the heat. What's more, it doesn’t crease easily and is effective in simple styles which are better suitable for intimate nuptials."
When requested other suitable bridal fabrics, Veni continued: "Lace is another fabulous option. Because it's obtainable in an array of patterns, textures, and weights, there's a method to suit every climate and body shape.
"Chiffon is yet another perfect wedding gown material for intimate summer weddings because of its lightweight, breathable and translucent properties and natural capability to drape. Other lightweight options suitable for summer heat are organza and tulle. Just make sure they're protected because these are all fragile fabrics so pack your gown in the protective dress bag without a penny else inside." Go
Before we inquire about specific styles we can wear around the beach or mountain range, we query whether silk is a good fabric choice or otherwise.
"Silk is surprisingly suitable! Not only is it durable and versatile, but it’s also suitable for all seasons because of its different textures and designs," exclaims Veni.
When you are looking at destination wedding gowns, we recommend choosing lighter dresses with minimal layers, open backs, and sleeveless arms over long sleeve wedding dresses. As Veni suggested, lightweight breathable fabrics like lace, crepe, and chiffon will also be popular, providing an appropriate choice and simpler option to pack on the plane. Floaty silhouettes offer a perfect selection for breezy beach weddings and boho brides while bold splits are fabulous for any more relaxed vibe and revealing sun-kissed legs.
